[Prague] Exhib at the City Hall in full guided tour

It has been a few years we celebrate Christmas elsewhere… far from home and our two cats ! Our family is extremely reduced -5 Members in all and for all MrSirban and I dispatched to the tops-in-France to Côte d'Ivoire-, We opted for a Christmas fun for lovers. We don't exchange gifts : the gift is the journey. This year, We opted for the Czech Republic, specifically the capital, Prague, We stayed at the 21 to the 25 December !

We landed around 11: 00 in the morning and we took possession of our House an hour later, corrected level clothing shooting because it was - 5 degrees out against 10 ° at 5: 00 in the morning at the airport and we decided to go a snack in town.

Arrival in the hotel room

Prague is very exotic :

  • the architecture is superb, colorful, well preserved and the city is very clean
  • the Czechs have Slavic faces and wear to some furs and fur hat
  • the words have nothing of latin and are difficult to read and pronounce
  • the food is rich and fat, vegetables are signage of plates for the benefit of the potatoes and cabbage (being allergic, I managed to avoid it)
  • the Czechs are very nice unlike their reputation, they are jovial and amused. We made the effort to learn three words of politeness that break the ice : “Hello = ahoj”, “Thank you = dekuju” and “Please = prosim”

We found a nice little restaurant on our wanderings and tasted the Czech specialties, like the goulash served in bread, then we went for a walk in the city. By going to City Hall, We noticed the french tour started in ten minutes. We had planned to make the 25 December, but finally changed our plans. So here we are embedded the day of arrival in the guided tour of the City Hall with a very nice guide, but who speaks french with Czech to be decided by the knife emphasis ! We understand a word on two at best and when she makes jokes, It is not ! In fact, We understand that it's a joke, because she laughed alone. Oops ! She does everything to make the very friendly visit, but we get out the oars ! We come to the conclusion that we would have better understood the visit in English.

The astronomical clock

Arriving hard to focus, between waking up at 3: 00 in the morning and the incomprehensible accent of the guide, We decided to do silly things ! We couldn't resist the urge to do the strut your stuff in the old city of Prague hotel. As it is in tour, We had to take a step back compared to the Group : We did our poor students through the MrSirban-Lilli !

The visit is very good and you learn the basics of the history of Prague. We have a small booklet which allows to correct the problems of understanding !. The City Hall moved into a mansion of the XIVth then bought the adjacent houses. It is a complex consisting of several houses. Inside, a succession of rooms from different eras are home to all municipal and civic functions (the Board room, meeting room…) and religious (small Gothic Chapel in which one can see the puppets of the outgoing twelve of the astronomical clock every hour). We were a little disappointed by the release of the puppets, It does not break three-legged duck. On the other hand, the clock itself is very beautiful. For the little story, and because the name of the master watchmaker's stupidly funny (We said no family names), the clock was manufactured in 1410 by Nicolas Kadau (so far nothing funny), then revised to 1490 by Hanus of the Rose (Ah ! you see ! You also makes you laugh admit !).

I loved myself in the tour group, It was very exciting. We had video surveillance of the room right in front of us in addition. With MrSirban, We love visit as well and the worst, a glance is enough to understand that one of us has switched. We pay attention, studious and suddenly one of us two spin and sends a little look in the corner, which means : “Come on ! Show me a darling buttock !” or “Attention ! I'll aerate a nene in the minute !” ! We are incorrigible. I launched the game and strut your stuff in the boardroom by saying to my man “I will try well one exhibits in the guided tour”, then MrSirban lent to the game and asked me in the underground “Let's do some strut your stuff here, It's too beautiful !”.

You can also visit the Romanesque and Gothic town hall underground. The level of the ground of Prague was once lower and very easily flood. The city has raised several metres. From the 13th century, the ground floors of houses became basements. The Town Hall underground consist of an ancient House of the 12th century, well and cistern and the foundations of the Tower. At a later date, places served as prison (If the guide gave the date, I don't remember… or I did not understand !). We get the names of prisoners engraved on the walls. Part of the basement also housed the Czech resistance and was destroyed during a bombing in may 1945.

Square náměstí, view from the Tower of the hotel city around 4:30

After the tour of the building, We climbed the top of the Tower. She made 70 meters and offers a bird's eye view on square náměstí square, bustling centre of the city and touristic. We have seen at night, because she falls at 4 pm at Prague. It is superb, the Christmas market and the tree extend haloed underfoot year-end holiday lights. Beautiful ! We also have an exhibitionist on the old town hall square, one of the main squares of Prague, City tourist center. It is dominated by the Tyn Cathedral and joined by several more lovely shopping streets than the other.

In practice, show off in Prague in winter, It's complicated for several reasons.

  1. It is the end of the year holidays, It's crowded. We stalled at the elbows to elbows to move away from Ant on the touristic places like the old town square (Square náměstí) or Charles Bridge.
  2. It's really cold. Three days at-7 °, -5° and -4 ° and two days at + 2 ° and + 4 ° through the rain. I was very covered all the time : Turtleneck + Wool Sweater + thin down jacket feather + wool coat, plus tights and gloves. For once you will see lot of flashing in pantyhose, because I had cold ass wearing just stockings the day of arrival !
  3. The day is short. The sun rises at 8 and night falls at 4: 00. We did a lot of pictures at night. Finally around 4 pm / 5 pm what ! The sunshine is limited.
  4. Military, plainclothes and uniformed police, camera surveillance… the city is very watched and we did not know the legislation on sexual exhibition in the Czech Republic.

Prague is a great and shining city. Everything invites you to linger, Despite the bracing climate ! We took pleasure in getting lost in the streets discovering according our wanderings of great buildings, without failing to visit the must-see tourist points ! It's both romantic and dynamic, historical and contemporary. Loved this city.
